Notes
The format of a match changed in 2008. The term “game” waw changed to “set.” In addition, scoring for those sets moved from 30 points to 25 points, except in matches that go the full five sets, in which the fifth set is still played to 15.
The match format previously changed in 2001, with scoring for each set moving from 15 points in a side-out scoring system to 30 points in a rally scoring system, except in matches that went the full five sets, in which the winning score again remained at 15.
In reflection of these changes, single-match and season category leaders under the different scoring formats are separated in order to avoid eliminating the achievements of those student-athletes who played under the previous formats. Because many student-athletes’ careers span multiple formats, career categories are not delineated in the same manner.
Other minor changes have been made throughout the history of NCAA volleyball (which began in 1981), but the three major statistical era considered in Wittenberg’s official records include: (1) 1981-2000: 15-point side-out scoring (best-of-three 1981-1991, best-of-five 1992-2000); (2) 2001-2007: 30-point rally scoring; and (3) 2008-present: 25-point rally scoring.
In statistical rankings, the rounding of percentages and/or averages may indicate ties where none exists. In these cases, the numerical order of the rankings is accurate.
